LibraryThing Launches Wiki-ish Initiative Called Common Knowledge

LibraryThing has recently begun a “social cataloging” wiki-ish initiative called Common Knowledge in order to supplement their existing database with more comprehensive information about authors and their works.  They have already recorded over 17,000 edits from 650 site members.  Common Knowledge will gather more detailed information about the authors (places of residence, awards and honors, agent) and books (important places, character names, publisher’s editor, description).

The appeal of LibraryThing stems from its range of functions as some are interested in its cataloging features while others are drawn to its social aspects.  All information accumulated through Common Knowledge will be fully shareable, under a Creative Commons Attribution license.
